Bengaluru, Karnataka: A woman has filed a complaint with the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru, alleging that her husband abandoned her and their infant daughter shortly after their marriage, prompting police to begin an investigation into the matter.
According to the complaint, the woman, originally from Kolkata and belonging to a Brahmin Hindu family, came into contact with Syed Imtiaz, a resident of Bengaluru's BTM Layout, through social media. She alleges that the two developed a relationship online and that he promised to marry her.
The complainant further claims that, before their marriage, she converted to Islam and adopted the name Zainab. The couple reportedly married on July 18, 2025, after which they moved to Kolkata and began living together as husband and wife.
According to her statement, the couple later welcomed a baby girl. However, she alleges that after the birth of their daughter, Syed Imtiaz left the family and has since become unreachable. Despite repeated attempts to contact him, she claims she has been unable to determine his whereabouts.
Seeking assistance, the woman travelled to Bengaluru with her infant daughter and lodged a formal complaint at the High Grounds Police Station. She has requested that authorities locate her husband and initiate appropriate legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
Police have acknowledged the complaint and are examining the allegations. Investigators are expected to record statements, verify the circumstances described in the complaint, and take further action in accordance with the evidence and applicable law.
At present, the allegations remain the subject of a police investigation. No conclusions have been reached, and the claims made in the complaint have not yet been established in court.
