Kanpur: Woman Alleges She Was Raped and Blackmailed After Muslim Auto Driver Hid His Identity

A disturbing case reported from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, involves a nursing student who allegedly accused an auto-rickshaw driver of sexual assault, blackmail and pressuring her to convert her religion and marry him.

According to the report cited by News Track Hindi, the woman had completed a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course in 2018 and regularly travelled by auto-rickshaw from her home in the Barra area to Hallett Hospital for training.

Woman Says Driver Introduced Himself as Kunal

The woman reportedly became acquainted with an auto driver in 2023. According to her complaint, the man introduced himself as Kunal, also known as Pinku Verma.

After they had met several times during her journeys, she alleged that he told her about his birthday and persuaded her to visit a room on that pretext.

She alleged that once there, her drink was spiked and she was sexually assaulted. She further claimed that the incident was recorded on video.

Alleged Video Used for Blackmail

According to the woman's account, the accused allegedly threatened to circulate the recording and used it to pressure her into continuing contact with him.

She reportedly said that the alleged blackmail continued for some time, with the video being used as leverage for further sexual exploitation.

The allegations are serious and are subject to the investigation and judicial process.

Aadhaar Card Allegedly Revealed His Identity

The woman's account took another turn when she reportedly used the man's mobile phone and looked through its gallery.

She allegedly came across an Aadhaar card carrying the man's photograph. However, according to her complaint, the name on the document was Mohammad Nabir, with an address listed in Rawatpur village.

She then reportedly realised that the man who had introduced himself as Kunal was allegedly Mohammad Nabir.

Alleged Pressure to Convert and Marry

After learning this information, the woman reportedly tried to distance herself from him.

She alleged that he continued contacting her and pressured her to convert her religion and marry him.

She also alleged that he threatened to circulate the intimate video and claimed that her family would be ruined if she did not comply with his demands.

According to the reported complaint, the woman's father eventually paid money after allegedly receiving threats concerning the video.

Police Arrested the Accused

The report states that police arrested Mohammad Nabir in January 2024 in connection with the allegations.

The investigation reportedly also uncovered information suggesting that Nabir was already married and had a daughter. The circumstances surrounding that marriage and the other allegations would need to be established through official investigation and court proceedings.

Case Highlights Risks of Digital Blackmail

The case illustrates how intimate recordings can be misused as a tool of coercion and blackmail. Such threats can leave victims afraid to approach their families or the police.

Anyone facing threats involving private photographs or videos should preserve evidence and report the matter to law-enforcement authorities rather than giving in to continued demands.

The allegations against the accused must ultimately be established through the legal process. The case should be understood as an allegation against an individual and not as evidence against an entire religious community.
