Sonbhadra Murder Case: Woman and Alleged Lover Among Four Arrested Over Husband’s Death

A shocking murder case has been reported from Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, where police have arrested four people in connection with the death of Ramashankar Mishra.

According to police, the case allegedly stemmed from a dispute after Ramashankar caught his wife, Priyanka Mishra, with her alleged lover, Vikas Chauhan. What followed, investigators allege, ended in a fatal assault and an attempt to make the death appear accidental.

Husband Allegedly Attacked After Confrontation

According to the police version, Ramashankar confronted Priyanka and Vikas after allegedly finding them together in a compromising situation.

A heated argument reportedly followed. Police allege that Priyanka and Vikas assaulted Ramashankar before strangling him and repeatedly striking his head against the floor.

Ramashankar eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Body Allegedly Dumped to Make Death Look Like an Accident

Investigators further allege that the accused attempted to conceal the circumstances of the death.

According to police, Ramashankar's body was wrapped in a bedsheet and taken away before being dumped beside a roadside. The alleged intention was to make the death appear to be an accident and divert suspicion from the actual circumstances.

The discovery of the body subsequently led police to begin an investigation into what had happened.

Four People Arrested

The Shaktinagar Police arrested four people in connection with the case:

  • Priyanka Mishra
  • Vikas Chauhan
  • Anurag Singh alias Badal, 18
  • Sonu Gupta, 19

Police said the accused allegedly confessed during interrogation. Investigators are also expected to examine forensic evidence, witness statements and other material to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Investigation Underway

The case has raised serious questions about the alleged planning behind the killing and the subsequent attempt to dispose of the body.

However, statements attributed to police during interrogation are not by themselves a final determination of guilt. The allegations against the accused will have to be established through evidence and the judicial process.

The investigation is continuing, and authorities may reveal additional details as the case progresses.

A Tragic Case of Alleged Betrayal

The death of Ramashankar Mishra has left a family dealing with a devastating loss. If the prosecution's allegations are ultimately proved in court, the case would represent a particularly serious instance of a relationship dispute escalating into fatal violence.

It is important, however, not to generalise the actions of the accused to women or any wider group. Criminal responsibility belongs to the individuals found responsible for the offence.
