Bhuj, Gujarat: A Special POCSO Court in Bhuj has sentenced a 22-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life after convicting him in a case involving the sexual assault of a minor girl, identity concealment, online blackmail, and unlawful religious conversion-related offences.
The convict, identified as Ziyad alias Samir Latif Sheikh, was found guilty under multiple provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Information Technology (IT) Act, and the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act.
Court Finds Accused Guilty on Multiple Charges
According to the prosecution, the convict allegedly used the name "Jigar" while interacting with the minor girl through the online gaming platform Free Fire Max, concealing his identity during their initial interactions.
The prosecution argued that after gaining the victim's trust, the accused blackmailed and repeatedly sexually assaulted the minor. The court also found him guilty of offences relating to coercion and violations under the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, based on the evidence presented during the trial.
Following the conclusion of the proceedings, the Special POCSO Court awarded rigorous imprisonment for life until the convict's last breath, reflecting the gravity of the offences established before the court.
Fine and Victim Compensation
In addition to the life sentence, the court imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh on the convict.
The court also directed that the victim receive ₹4 lakh in compensation in accordance with applicable victim compensation provisions to support her rehabilitation.

The case highlights the stringent legal consequences for offences involving the sexual exploitation of minors. Laws such as the POCSO Act provide enhanced protection for children and prescribe severe punishments for those convicted of child sexual abuse.
