Authorities in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district have demolished an allegedly illegal cricket astro-turf owned by the family of Mahim Shaikh, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with the alleged enticement and rape of a young Hindu woman.
According to officials, the astro-turf was constructed on agricultural land in the Chandnipura area under the Sanawad police station limits. The facility, estimated to be worth around ₹50 lakh, was reportedly being used for commercial purposes without the required permissions.
The administration carried out the demolition drive, stating that the structure violated land-use regulations. Officials also noted that the cricket turf was situated near the building where the alleged crime is said to have taken place.
Mahim Shaikh, the son of Junaid Shaikh, remains in judicial custody as the investigation into the case continues.
Reacting to the action, Barwaha BJP MLA Sachin Birla told the media that the administration's strict response in cases involving what he described as "Love Jihad" and "Land Jihad" in Sanawad would serve as a strong example for the rest of the state.
The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing, while authorities say action against illegal constructions will continue in accordance with the law.
