Umaria, Madhya Pradesh: A man identified by police as Haroon Mohammad Khan has been arrested in Umaria following allegations that he impersonated a Hindu man, developed a relationship with a woman under a false identity, and later blackmailed her using an alleged obscene video.
According to the police complaint, the accused allegedly introduced himself as Abhishek Singh Parihar, claiming to be associated with the BJP. Investigators further allege that he wore a tilak and presented himself as a Hindu in order to gain the woman's trust.
The complainant has alleged that, believing the accused's claimed identity, she entered into a relationship with him. She later discovered, according to the complaint, that he had allegedly misrepresented his identity.
The woman further alleged that after she attempted to end the relationship, the accused secretly recorded or obtained an obscene video of her and threatened to circulate it publicly unless she complied with his demands. According to the complaint, she was allegedly blackmailed into paying approximately ₹8 lakh.
During the investigation, police said they seized digital chat records and electronic evidence from the accused. Investigators claim that the recovered chats indicate he may have used similar methods in interactions with other women. Police are examining these materials as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the investigation, police arrested Haroon Mohammad Khan and produced him before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Authorities have stated that further investigation is underway to verify the allegations and determine whether additional offences or victims are involved.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
