A woman identified as Priyanjali has publicly shared allegations against her husband, Imran Ali Ramz, a three-time former MLA from West Bengal, claiming she was subjected to forced religious conversion, domestic abuse, financial exploitation, and prolonged legal harassment after their marriage.
According to Priyanjali, she married Imran Ali Ramz under the Special Marriage Act when she was 19 years old. She alleges that within six months of the marriage, while she was pregnant, she was pressured and compelled to convert to Islam so that a nikah ceremony could be performed.
Priyanjali further claims that her marriage was followed by physical and emotional abuse, financial cheating, and disputes over maintenance. She says that since 2023, she has been pursuing multiple legal cases related to these allegations, including matters concerning maintenance, divorce, and other disputes.
Protest Outside Congress Office
In March, Priyanjali attracted public attention after staging a protest outside the Congress party office in New Delhi. She demanded disciplinary action against Imran Ali Ramz over the allegations she has raised.
According to her account, her demands were not accepted, and no immediate action followed her protest.
Support from a Social Organization
Priyanjali states that after being left in financial hardship, she received assistance from the organization Sewa Nyaya, led by Sanjeev Sanskrit and Swati GS. She says the organization has helped provide rehabilitation and support while her legal cases continue.
In a recent interview with Swati GS, Priyanjali described her experiences and appealed for justice, while urging other women facing similar situations to seek legal assistance and support.
Legal Status
The allegations made by Priyanjali remain subject to legal proceedings. Courts will determine the facts and any legal liability based on the evidence presented. As of the time of publication, there has been no final judicial determination regarding these allegations.
