A 19-year-old woman from Assam was allegedly murdered inside a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in a case that has left residents shocked. The deceased has been identified as Mehak Ahmed, a native of Dibrugarh, Assam.
According to reports, Mehak had moved to Noida only around three weeks before the incident. She was staying at a PG in the Baraula area under the jurisdiction of Sector 49 police station along with her friend Sanjana. Both reportedly worked at a call centre.
A man identified as Raman, who reportedly lived on the same floor of the PG, has emerged as the main suspect. Reports say Raman is a B.Tech graduate from Bihar and had previously worked for an IT company.
What happened inside the PG?
Police sources cited in reports said Mehak and Raman had an argument on the night of August 8. Raman was allegedly drinking outside his room at the time.
Mehak's friend Sanjana was reportedly away. When she returned on August 10, Mehak was missing. Around the same time, other residents reportedly noticed a foul smell coming from Raman's locked room.
The landlord subsequently alerted the police. Officers reached the property and broke open the locked room, where they allegedly discovered Mehak's body. Police said she had suffered multiple injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp-edged weapon. Her body was sent for a post-mortem examination, while forensic teams collected evidence from the scene.
Raman was reportedly missing from the premises and police teams have been formed to locate him.
What could have led to the murder?
At this stage, the motive has not been officially established. Police are reportedly examining the circumstances surrounding the argument and are analysing Mehak's phone, call records, chats and other digital evidence. The post-mortem examination is also expected to provide important information about the circumstances and timing of her death.
Based on the information currently available, it would be premature to claim that the murder happened for a particular reason. The reported argument is one line of investigation, but investigators will need to establish what happened between Mehak and Raman before determining the motive.
Investigation continues
The case has raised concerns among residents living in PG accommodations, particularly young people who move to cities such as Noida for employment. For now, police are focusing on locating the suspect and reconstructing the events that led to Mehak's death.
Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed a final motive, and any conclusion about why the crime occurred should wait until investigators establish the facts.
