Chennai: Gym Coach Arrested for Allegedly Threatening College Student After Breakup

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: A 27-year-old gym coach, identified as Imthias Sheriff of Otteri, has reportedly been arrested by Secretariat Colony police over allegations that he threatened and harassed a college student after their relationship ended.

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Sheriff met the woman, a third-year college student, while working as a gym coach in 2024. The two subsequently entered into a relationship.

However, the woman later decided to end the relationship, reportedly because she was unhappy with his behaviour. After the breakup, Sheriff allegedly continued trying to contact her and pressured her to resume the relationship.

Alleged Threats Following the Breakup

According to the police account cited in the report, Sheriff allegedly threatened to harm himself when the woman stopped communicating with him. He later allegedly warned that he would post photographs of the two of them on social media if she continued refusing to speak with him.

The woman was reportedly concerned about the threats and the possibility that their photographs could be shared publicly without her consent.

Woman Allegedly Assaulted on Her Way to College

The situation allegedly escalated on September 28, when Sheriff intercepted the woman as she was travelling to college. He allegedly verbally abused and assaulted her before leaving the scene.

The incident led to police action, and Secretariat Colony police reportedly arrested Sheriff in connection with the allegations.

Police Investigation

The case highlights concerns about harassment, intimidation and the misuse of personal photographs following the end of a relationship. Sharing private images without consent or using them to threaten someone can have serious legal consequences.

The allegations against Sheriff remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings. The evidence gathered by police and the court process will determine the outcome of the case.

The incident also serves as a reminder that ending a relationship is a personal choice. Threats, intimidation and unwanted contact should be reported to the appropriate authorities rather than handled through confrontation.
