Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A 22-year-old woman, identified as Muskan, was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, Adil, at the house of her maternal aunt in the Brahmapuri area of Meerut.
According to the police complaint and local reporting, Adil had returned from jail only five days earlier after receiving bail in a case involving allegations of rape of a minor. The family alleged that he had spent around one and a half years in jail in connection with that case.
Muskan had been living with her mother along with her two young sons, Hasnain, 3, and Hamza, 9 months old, while Adil was in jail. Her mother, Shama, alleged that Muskan had faced harassment and demands for additional dowry after the marriage.
After being released on bail, Adil reportedly went to Muskan's mother's home and insisted on taking her back with him. Her mother eventually allowed her daughter to accompany him. Because Adil's family reportedly did not allow them to stay at their home, they went to Muskan's maternal aunt's house instead.
According to the complaint, an argument later broke out between the couple. Police and the family allege that Adil then strangled Muskan, after which he fled the house.
Following the incident, Adil allegedly threatened his aunt's daughter, Samayra, with serious consequences if she informed the police. The family subsequently contacted the police, following which officers and a forensic team reached the location and began investigating.
Police registered a dowry-death case on the basis of Muskan's mother's complaint. Her body was sent for post-mortem examination, with the final medical report expected to help establish the exact cause of death. Police also arrested Adil and said he would be produced before the court.
Questions About the Earlier Case
The case has also drawn attention because of Adil's recent release on bail in the earlier case involving allegations concerning a minor. Court records show that an accused named Adil in a 2026 Allahabad High Court bail matter was granted bail in a case involving allegations of gang rape; however, the available court record does not by itself establish that this is the same Adil involved in Muskan's murder case.
It is therefore safer to describe the earlier offence as an allegation/case, rather than calling Adil a convicted criminal.
The circumstances surrounding Muskan's death, the earlier criminal case and the allegations of domestic harassment will now be examined through the police investigation and court proceeding
