Gujarat: Medical Store Owner Arrested Over Alleged Sale of Mislabelled Animal Supplement as Children's Medicine for only Hindus

A medical-store owner was arrested in Surat, Gujarat, after police allegedly uncovered a scheme involving the repackaging of a veterinary supplement and its sale as medicine for children.

The accused was identified in media reports as Mohammad Sajid Ibrahim Mulla, 51, who operated Shantinath Medical Store in the Gopipura area of Surat. According to police, the alleged operation involved transferring a liquid supplement intended for animals into smaller bottles and attaching labels that made it appear to be a product for human use.

What Did Police Allegedly Discover?

According to reports published in October 2026, the Surat Special Operations Group, along with officials from the Food and Drugs Control Administration, conducted a raid at the medical store.

Investigators alleged that the shop owner transferred Himalaya Liv.52 Protec Liquid Veterinary Feed Supplement from larger containers into smaller bottles. The bottles were reportedly labelled as Himalaya Liv.52 Drops, a product intended for children.

Police further alleged that the repackaged liquid was sold to customers as medicine. Materials and other items valued at approximately ₹31,195 were reportedly seized during the operation.

Police Register Case

According to the reports, an FIR was registered at Athwa police station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to causing harm, negligent acts endangering human life, forgery and selling a drug as a different product.

Police also advised consumers who had purchased the suspected product and experienced adverse health effects to seek medical attention and contact the authorities.

Public Health Concerns

The case highlights the importance of ensuring that medicines purchased from pharmacies are genuine, correctly labelled and suitable for human consumption. Consumers should consult qualified healthcare professionals before taking medication and should not use veterinary products as human medicine.

The allegations against the accused must be assessed through the legal process. Anyone with relevant information about the suspected product should contact the appropriate authorities.
