Assam: Protests Erupt in Bongaigaon After Alleged Abuse at Private Madrasa; Teacher Arrested

 Bongaigaon, Assam: Tension gripped Bongaigaon after hundreds of residents staged protests over allegations of sexual abuse involving a student at a private madrasa. The incident prompted a large police deployment as authorities moved to restore order and investigate the allegations.

According to police and local reports, the accused has been identified as Maulvi Aminul Islam, a teacher associated with Ishwaatul Uloom Madrasatul Banat. He has been taken into police custody following allegations that a girl student was subjected to sexual abuse over an extended period.

In response to the incident, the district administration and law enforcement agencies conducted an overnight operation at the institution. Officials reported that 148 girl students were safely evacuated from the madrasa and handed over to their families or placed under appropriate care while the investigation continues.

Authorities have also ordered the closure of the private madrasa pending the outcome of the investigation. Police are recording statements from students, staff members, and other witnesses, while additional evidence is being collected to determine the full circumstances of the case.

The allegations have triggered widespread public anger, with local residents demanding a thorough investigation and strict legal action if the accusations are substantiated. Police appealed for calm and urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

The case is currently under investigation, and the allegations against the accused have not yet been tested in court. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty through the judicial process.
