New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested four individuals after a woman Booth Level Officer (BLO) was allegedly assaulted and obstructed while carrying out her official duties during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Old Delhi area.
According to police, the incident occurred while the BLO was conducting field verification as part of the Election Commission's electoral roll revision process. Authorities allege that she was verbally abused, prevented from performing her duties, and physically assaulted during the course of the exercise.
Following the incident, Delhi Police registered a case and arrested four accused, identified as Sabreen, Rehman, Asif, and Aftab. Officials stated that they have been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly obstructing and assaulting a public servant while she was discharging her official responsibilities.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the inquiry. Authorities are also examining witness statements and other available material related to the incident.
The case has highlighted the challenges faced by government officials engaged in election-related fieldwork and has renewed calls for ensuring the safety of public servants performing statutory duties.
At the time of publication, the allegations remain under investigation. The accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
