A first-year lab technician student at Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was taken into police custody after college authorities discovered a handwritten document containing bomb-making notes inside the institution's X-ray laboratory.
The student has been identified as Mohammed Sarfaraz Khan, a resident of Balrampur district who is currently pursuing his first year of studies at the government medical college.
According to officials, the handwritten paper was found on August 1 after the completion of the night shift. Staff members reportedly discovered the document inside the X-ray room and immediately informed the college administration. Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, the authorities alerted the Ayodhya Police for further investigation.
Police said Sarfaraz Khan had been assigned duty in the X-ray room from 10:00 PM on Friday until 8:00 AM on Saturday, along with two other students. During the inspection, officials recovered a handwritten note that allegedly contained the names of various chemicals, sketches, diagrams, and references to terms such as "Big Blast."
Following the recovery of the document, multiple investigative agencies, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), Special Task Force (STF), Special Branch, and the Intelligence Bureau (IB), began questioning the student to determine the origin and purpose of the notes.
During preliminary interrogation, Sarfaraz reportedly told investigators that he had been watching a film based on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his laptop during his night duty because he was unable to sleep. According to his statement, he wrote down the bomb-making sequence depicted in the movie purely out of curiosity and later fell asleep. Police are examining this explanation as part of their investigation.
Authorities have not announced any conclusions regarding the student's intent, and investigators are continuing to examine the handwritten material, electronic devices, and other evidence. Officials have stated that all aspects of the case are being verified before any final determination is made.
The incident has attracted significant public attention due to Ayodhya's religious and strategic importance. Security agencies are treating the matter seriously while emphasizing that the investigation is still ongoing. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation and any evidence collected during questioning.
