Jigani, Karnataka: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner in Karnataka's Jigani area, with police launching a manhunt to trace the accused, who remains absconding.
The victim, Akshata Indaragi, had reportedly been in a live-in relationship with Mohammad Nanna Saab for the past several months after moving to Jigani for work. According to the police, the incident took place at the couple's rented house, where Akshata was allegedly strangled to death.
Police said Akshata had married Krishna Indaragi around 12 years ago, and the couple had two children. While working as a saree weaver in Ilkal, she reportedly came into contact with Mohammad Nanna Saab. About six months ago, she moved to Jigani in search of better employment opportunities and secured a job at a garment factory. During this period, she began living with Nanna Saab in a rented accommodation.
Investigators believe the relationship eventually turned violent. Police allege that following an argument, Mohammad Nanna Saab assaulted Akshata and allegedly strangled her to death inside their rented house.
After the alleged murder, the accused is said to have locked the house from the outside and fled the area, leaving the victim's body inside. The incident remained unnoticed for several days until residents living nearby detected a foul smell coming from the locked house.
Concerned neighbors alerted the police, who immediately rushed to the spot and entered the house. During the inspection, officers discovered Akshata's body in a decomposed state, following which a murder case was registered.
Police have begun a detailed investigation to establish the sequence of events and determine the motive behind the alleged crime. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene, and statements from witnesses and people known to the couple are also being recorded as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nanna Saab remains absconding. Multiple police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him, and officials say efforts are underway to locate the accused at the earliest.
The investigation is continuing, and police are expected to release further details as more evidence becomes available.
